Aptis is the first multilevel test of English designed based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages to assess in a practical and precise way the linguistic competence in English, entirely by computer. With this test, results can be obtained within 48 to 72 hours.
Aptis has been developed by experts from the British Council in the field of linguistic assessment based on the findings of current applied linguistics.
WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?
The Aptis test consists of a central ‘Grammar and Vocabulary’ test that is combined with the other components:
- ‘Reading’ 4 parts (30 min)
- ‘Writing’ 4 parts (50 min),
- ‘Listening ’3 parts (50 min) and‘ Speaking ’4 parts (12 min.)
- ‘Speaking’ is also done by computer, so we recommend you do online practice recording yourself to become familiar and gain confidence.
These data correspond to the version of Aptis General and Aptis for Teachers, the version of Aptis Advanced varies slightly.
WHO RECOGNISES IT?
Aptis is officially recognised by numerous public institutions to certify the level of English. Among others, it has the recognition of eleven of the twelve Autonomous Communities, the CRUE and ACLES. There are several versions of Aptis: please check the one that best suits you before enrolling (Aptis General A1-C, Aptis for Teachers A1-C or Aptis advanced B1-C2).
THE CERTIFICATE?
You will receive Aptis results by email within 2-3 days of taking the test. The original certificate is sent by mail and will arrive in 7-10 days, so you will have to take this into account if you need to present it to an institution.
WHERE AND WHEN?
You can take the Aptis test in more than 25 cities in Spain. The recommended retail price to obtain the British Council Aptis certificate is € 79 for Aptis General and Aptis for Teachers versions, and € 93 for Aptis Advanced until 08/31/2019. In some universities and associated headquarters, the rates may be modified, for administrative and management expenses of these entities.
